INTERVIEW WITH GERMAN NATIONAL CHAMPION
Here's an interview with the Krosmaster German Nationals Champion of 2015, Wadim, better known as Rikerslash in the Krosmaster online community.
Do you think there are
Krosmaster Teams without Season 1 that are competitive?
-I think there are some good teams. E.g. Gein, Ghett and
Lou. I think Season 2 is more important, since more different figurines from S2
are being played, in my opinion. Luk Ylook and Coa Gulary from S1 are the ones
which are widely played and not easy to replace.
Who do you see as the
most underrated characters?
-Definitely Ayan and Arthur Bine, especially with the
combination with Poochan. Germany is starting to use them at the moment. The
damage output of them is amazingly high, especially with good Rewards. This
will probably change with KMA 2.0 though.
Do you think that
Season 3’s stronger trend towards “theme” teams will start to show up in the
meta-game or is making more independent characters a more vioable way to faster
competitive play?
-If the theme teams would be competitive, most teams would
look pretty close to the same, since you can only choose between 5 Krosmasters
for your main setup. I am not a big fan of theme-based sets because of that. It
is pretty hard to use these figurines alone without the theme, like I did with
Kannibal Jav. You can see this in the lack of S3 base set Krosmasters in the
meta.
How many games a day
do you normally play? I.E. How much practice do you get before a big
tournament?
-At the moment I probably play around 1 game per day on
average, since I am quite busy in real life at the moment. I play close to 0
games on the bard though, which I would like to change in the near future,
since it is quite fun. I tested on ewhole day for the Nationals with a good
friend of mine on the board and did many games online with my team.
Do you set up the
exact same every time when going first or do you wing it?
-97% of the time I will set up the same once I figure out a
good setup. I will always try to find better setups though. My main focus is to
get Kama in the first turn most of the time anyway. The first percentage would
be lower, if I wouldn’t use BC for the AP decrease in the 1st turn.
What advice can you
give to new players?
-Do not be disappointed if you are not successful at the
beginning and try learning to understand the real reasons why you lose,
especially if you play against good players. In my opinion, the ‘luck factor’ is
not that high in this game, so you can get very good by understanding why
decisions are made. This how I learned this game pretty fast and I always learn
more things by the choices they make, while playing good players. Once you
understand the rules, you can also watch my videos where I try to explain my
decisions as much as possible. :P
With the new promo
figures that came out after Nationals 2015, which one do you see is the most
competitive?
-This is hard to tell and I have not played with any of them.
I would guess Joris-Master. He has some very neat abilities.
What is your favorite
character and why?
-I am not into favorites but I would say Diver Birel. Reason
being that I played him a lot and liked his flexibility with the Shovel and the
2 extra AP with Farmer. Overall a cool figurine which got nerfed by Ghett and
Henual becoming bosses.
Do you see greater
than level 6 coming into Krosmater?
-I think this would hurt the balance of the game, if the GG
system does not get changed somehow and there is really no good gain from it. I
like that you are enticed to play many Krosmasters at the moment in KMA. If
they change the GG system this may be possible though.
What character from
Dofus and Wakfu would you love to see a Krosmaster?
-I have not played either of them and I know close to
nothing about the story so I have no answer to this question.
How did it feel to win
the German National Championship in 2015?
-It was an amazing feeling. The tournament was very
interesting and all of my opponents were very nice. Winning a die roll to reach
Top 8 with a 2/3 chance was pretty tense and I will not forget that moment.
Marc was an amazing opponent at the end and we played a very interesting game
in the finals, where luck was more in my side. ;)
Is there anything you’d
like to say to wrap things up?
-I want to thank my girlfriend for always supporting me with my hobbies. I also want to thank my fans at my YouTube channel for the support over the last months and thank you for the interview Jay Adkins.

Unloved Krosmasters #1
Here’s our first installment of Unloved Krosmasters: the
section of this blog that talks about some of the less used Krosmasters that
might make you look at them differently.
The first Unloved Krosmaster that we’re going to talk about is Victor Don Voom.
At a first glance, he is quick with 9 initiative and 4 movement.
He also has an average amount of health at 14 hit points.
Lastly, he has 6 action points which seems low in comparison to other level 5 Krosmasters in the game.
This could make it potentially difficult when playing against Krosmasters like Nox and Raul Bak, who remove AP from enemies.
He has Critical Hit, Lock, and his special power called Speedy Aura that gives whatever allied Krosmaster that he ends his turn next to +1 mp.
With a higher initiative, this can be beneficial for many of the Krosmasters that we play with since the vast majority have 9 or less initiative.
This would make it so those Krosmasters can use the extra mp the same turn they receive it since they haven’t yet had their activation phases.
This makes planning your turn potentially easier than if he would give the bonus for the following turn.
The added mp to allies is especially interesting when thinking about the different combinations of Krosmasters that Victor Don Voom could be used with.
As far as the spells that Victor Don Voom has, he is an average hitter with how much damage he can do every turn.
His earth damage (green) spell named, ‘Apathy’ costs 4 action points to cast, has an adjustable (green) range of 2-5 in any direction, and does 1 base earth damage.
In addition to the 1 base damage, he also reduces the movement of his target by -1 when he attacks with this spell.
With this spell, you can only attack with it once with the amount of action points Victor Don Voom has but luckily he has his other attack that he could potentially do also.
His other attack is an air damage (purple) spell named, ‘Furia’ which costs 2 action points to cast, has adjustable (green) range of 1-2 that you need to be in a straight line to target, and does 1 base air damage.
In addition to the 1 base air damage, the Furia spell has an additional effect where Victor Don Voom is moved one cell closer to the character he targets.
Since it pulls you closer, I would suggest, if you want to do both Apathy and Furia, that you be mindful and consider doing Apathy first since casting Furia will bring you potentially too close to use Apathy, since you have to be at least 2 cells away for Apathy.
If you are closer and don’t want to decrease the movement points of the character you are targeting, then Furia might be the best option since you can attack with this spell 3 times since it only costs 6 action points.
That means a potential 6 damage when attacking with this spell, especially since you have critical hit.
His favorite things:
Aero Boost/Buff: Whether an extra 2 damage for his Furia attack spell or just 1 per attack, you can't go wrong with these.
Terra Boost/Buff: Same goes with the extra damage with his Apathy attack spell.
Masqueraider Style: Getting that extra 3 AP would be potentially killer with him, especially with some of the friends he runs with who give him extra AP. It's also never bad to have an opportunity to heal a little bit when in need too.
Xelor Style: Two more Furia attacks, yes please!!!
Sacrier Style: With 14 HP, if he doesn't have any damage markers on him, this could make him very deadly.
Stasis Crystal: Being able to do potentially 12 damage in a single turn is literally killer. Get this if you're able to because if you don't, your opponent definitely will.
Prespic Set: With how close Victor has to get to other characters, having counter and extra HP would be really awesome.
Ochre Dofus: Extra AP is really awesome for Victor since he has that 2AP cost attack.
Treechnid Set: With 4 MP already, being able to lose one doesn't hurt him too much since he gets that extra +5 HP and extra +2 AP.
Victor’s best friends:
-Ally McZeal: Her getting an extra MP and Victor getting an
extra AP when these two get close is awesome. Making it so he can grab some
kama while still being able to attack multiple times is really advantageous.
-Henual: That extra 2 AP is really wonderful for Victor, especially if Henual
can get that extra MP to keep up with Victor for the next turn.
-Malee Buhrum: Even though running these two together would make it hard with so
few numbers, being able to remove any –AP, -MP, or –Range markers from Victor
is a great thing. Plus, the combos that are left with those 2 character points
left for team design isn’t too bad. (especially with the next friend)
-Phaeris: Phaeris is everyone’s best friend. You can’t ever be made at him for
taking some of the heat off of you when it’s really necessary. If you’re
running with Malee Buhrum and Victor Don Voom, having Phaeris there to control
the board a little bit is really great. Say if Malee goes one turn and tosses
an enemy back towards Victor for the next turn, being able to move Phaeris
adjacent to the enemy would make it a lot better for the next turn so your
heavy hitters don’t get hurt too bad.
-Lou: Lou, like Henual, can be everyone’s best friend since she gives her
targets +1MP and +2 AP.
-Otomai: If giving your opponent -1MP is part of your purpose in life like it is
for Victor, being able to increase that hurt is really great. It’s hard to run
a 3 character team but the control that these characters have is a lot of fun.

Interview With Nicoolivera
Nicoolivera
Who is Nicoolivera?
-German Krosmaster Arena player who has finished 2nd at the 2015 worlds championship. Also has top 4 finish in German's National in 2014 and 2015. He has also finished 1st on past 3D Krosmaster online ladders. He is a really big part of the German Krosmaster Community.
Videos from Worlds Championship 2015
Interview With Nicoolivera at Worlds:
Finals At Worlds:
How did it feel to compete in the world championship?
-It's the biggest tournament a Krosmaster player can play in.
The event was a special experience for me. The opportunity to play again at the next world championship is clearly fantastic.
What match have been your most memorable?
-At our Nationals there was a match I never thought I would win, except for the last round.
You can watch it here:
Do you think there are Krosmaster Teams without Season 1 as competitive? – Dick T
If you look at the teams who won the Nationals, you've got to say clearly yes.
Who do you see as the most underrated characters? - Josh S
-There're four figurines which I like to play but which don't stand a chance in the actual meta or deal to little damage. They're Qilby, Queen of Thieves, Theo and Ira Tayte.
Do you think that Season 3's stronger trend towards "theme" teams will start to show up in the meta or is making more independent characters a more viable way to foster competitive play? - Paul B
-I think there aren't enough figurines per theme at this time to play them as pure teams. At this time you're better off fitting them in existing teams.
How many games a day do you normally play? I.E. how much practice do you get before a big tournament? – Mike C.
-I play an average of three to four matches a day – so about an hour to relax. It's a bit more before a big tournament, but not much, because we've got something like a training camp with Team Double Critical. :)
Who is your biggest rival if you had to choose one?
-I don't have something like that but if I had to name someone I always want to win against; I would go with Dacow. Probably because I played a lot against him and it's always by a hair who wins.(To be clear: if he wins – if I win, it's always clear and well deserved!)
Do you set up the exact same every time when going first or do you wing it? – Tony C
Do you set up the exact same every time when going first or do you wing it? – Tony C
-If you play offline, you should use the same positions if you're the second player. Online I try to improve the start positions.
What the best advice you can give to new players?
-Play the figurines you think are fun to play, not what other players use.
With the new promo figures that came out after nationals 2015, which one do you see is the most competitive?
-I fell in love with the Shopkeeper. :) But I think, they're all 100% playable.
What is your favorite character and why?
What is your favorite character and why?
-I think, the Queen of Thieves is brilliant. To force your opponent to watch his Kamas is a new way to play.
What are your go-to filler characters and why?
-If Luk Ylook is an option, I'll always choose him because he makes every team unpredictable. And you're never wrong with two Moe Lawrs.
I think the Queen of Thieves is brilliant. To force your opponent to watch his Kamas is a new way to play.
Do you see level greater than 6 coming into Krosmaster?
-No, because there is the three-figurines-rule and you would have less options to build a team.
What character from Dofus and Wakfu would you love to see come to Krosmaster?
-I hope to see Skeunk and Bworker from Dofus. :)
Skeunk Bworker
