INTERVIEW WITH GERMAN NATIONAL CHAMPION

Here's an interview with the Krosmaster German Nationals Champion of 2015, Wadim, better known as Rikerslash in the Krosmaster online community.

Do you think there are Krosmaster Teams without Season 1 that are competitive?

-I think there are some good teams. E.g. Gein, Ghett and Lou. I think Season 2 is more important, since more different figurines from S2 are being played, in my opinion. Luk Ylook and Coa Gulary from S1 are the ones which are widely played and not easy to replace.

Who do you see as the most underrated characters?

-Definitely Ayan and Arthur Bine, especially with the combination with Poochan. Germany is starting to use them at the moment. The damage output of them is amazingly high, especially with good Rewards. This will probably change with KMA 2.0 though.

Do you think that Season 3’s stronger trend towards “theme” teams will start to show up in the meta-game or is making more independent characters a more vioable way to faster competitive play?

-If the theme teams would be competitive, most teams would look pretty close to the same, since you can only choose between 5 Krosmasters for your main setup. I am not a big fan of theme-based sets because of that. It is pretty hard to use these figurines alone without the theme, like I did with Kannibal Jav. You can see this in the lack of S3 base set Krosmasters in the meta.

How many games a day do you normally play? I.E. How much practice do you get before a big tournament?

-At the moment I probably play around 1 game per day on average, since I am quite busy in real life at the moment. I play close to 0 games on the bard though, which I would like to change in the near future, since it is quite fun. I tested on ewhole day for the Nationals with a good friend of mine on the board and did many games online with my team.

Do you set up the exact same every time when going first or do you wing it?

-97% of the time I will set up the same once I figure out a good setup. I will always try to find better setups though. My main focus is to get Kama in the first turn most of the time anyway. The first percentage would be lower, if I wouldn’t use BC for the AP decrease in the 1st turn.

What advice can you give to new players?

-Do not be disappointed if you are not successful at the beginning and try learning to understand the real reasons why you lose, especially if you play against good players. In my opinion, the ‘luck factor’ is not that high in this game, so you can get very good by understanding why decisions are made. This how I learned this game pretty fast and I always learn more things by the choices they make, while playing good players. Once you understand the rules, you can also watch my videos where I try to explain my decisions as much as possible. :P

With the new promo figures that came out after Nationals 2015, which one do you see is the most competitive?

-This is hard to tell and I have not played with any of them. I would guess Joris-Master. He has some very neat abilities.

What is your favorite character and why?

-I am not into favorites but I would say Diver Birel. Reason being that I played him a lot and liked his flexibility with the Shovel and the 2 extra AP with Farmer. Overall a cool figurine which got nerfed by Ghett and Henual becoming bosses.

Do you see greater than level 6 coming into Krosmater?

-I think this would hurt the balance of the game, if the GG system does not get changed somehow and there is really no good gain from it. I like that you are enticed to play many Krosmasters at the moment in KMA. If they change the GG system this may be possible though.

What character from Dofus and Wakfu would you love to see a Krosmaster?

-I have not played either of them and I know close to nothing about the story so I have no answer to this question.

How did it feel to win the German National Championship in 2015?

-It was an amazing feeling. The tournament was very interesting and all of my opponents were very nice. Winning a die roll to reach Top 8 with a 2/3 chance was pretty tense and I will not forget that moment. Marc was an amazing opponent at the end and we played a very interesting game in the finals, where luck was more in my side. ;)

Is there anything you’d like to say to wrap things up?

-I want to thank my girlfriend for always supporting me with my hobbies. I also want to thank my fans at my YouTube channel for the support over the last months and thank you for the interview Jay Adkins.
